I’m so lazy that I’m pretty sure I’m overpaying for cable, because I haven’t bothered to shop around and find out if there are better deals available–though with cable TV seeming to be a duopoly between Bell and Rogers–neither whose prices really differ significantly–in Toronto, I’m the kind of beaten down consumer that these huge corporations like–to lazy and ultimately apathetic to do anything about getting ripped off. But sometimes things annoy me. And Roger’s treatment of the Local Programming Improvement Fund is one of them.”

An article in which I get supremely annoyed at Canadian cable companies and invite people to complain. Proper journalism! Sort of.

The Canada Day Fragments / Future Shop Tech Blog

“Tim has just done a nice post celebrating Canadian music for Canada Day, pointing out some Canadian music worth checking out (such as Malajube, which I second). If I was to write about Canadian music I’d spend the whole time inciting the nation to murder Nickleback, so I won’t do that. Instead I’m inspired to write about one of my favourite Canadian directors, Bruce McDonald, in the hopes that if you’ve never seen anything by him you’ll check him out.”

Though hardly tech related, I thought I’d celebrate Bruce McDonald this Canada day.

I haven’t really made an especially big deal of this, but I’ve recently begun blogging for Future Shop’s Tech Blog. Future Shop are a Canadian big box electronics retailer – similar to Best Buy, and in fact, the same company when you get to the corporate level – but their blog gives me (more or less) carte blanche to write what I see fit and I’m joined by some other fine writers, so it’s a rather pleasant job all in all.

As I went down to E3 this year I decided to exercise my writing muscles by trying to “liveblog” for the site, and while I wasn’t entirely successful in blogging “live” I think I wrote some of the most amusing and free flowing stuff I’ve written in a while – with some very unfiltered opinion. Stream of consciousness will do that for you.
