Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles / Eurogamer

“This is really a release made for, and by, Castlevania fans. If you don’t think much of the series, this isn’t going to change your mind. I wouldn’t think much of it either if it only included the remake, but the tip-top ports of the original Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night bump the score up a couple of marks easily.”

As I say in the review, I really don’t rate Rondo of Blood. To be completely honest, I don’t even think Symphony of the Night is “all that.” However, if you want (and are willing go to the trouble of unlocking) them, you really couldn’t go wrong with this collection.

Did you ever play the original Gameboy Castlevania? It was awesome. I do agree that the Symphony of the Night is not all that. It’s just not as good as I remember the GB game being. Give me Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts any day.

Slow as it is, my favourite Castlevania is possibly the Gameboy Castlevania II, probably because it’s the one I had and played the most as a kid. The music is really amazing (I love Gameboy chip tunes!)

The Gameboy sound chip was hardly hi-tech but it had so many classic tunes written for it. The Ducktales theme sounded great on the Gameboy. Ahh… So many memories. Besides who can forget the music on Tetris and Super Mario Land?

I was going to punch you, but then you mentioned Castlevania II on GB is your favorite. Now I might hug you.
