Excite Truck / The Globe and Mail

“That’s perhaps the crux of the problem with Excite Truck, even ignoring the flawed controls; there’s simply no excitement here. And as a launch title for a system that’s supposed to offer something special, something different, that is damning. In the end, there’s one more thing that Excite Truck has in common with Excite Bike other than the name: compared to other titles on the market today, it is simplistic, outdated, and forgettable.”

I didn’t like Excite Truck at all. I remain unconvinced that the Wii remote can work as a “wheel”; I hear that someone (Ubisoft?) created a steering wheel cradle for it to go with one of their games, but control difficulties aside, Excite Truck is just so… Not exciting.

Don’t dis Excite Bike :(

Anyways, I think you’re referring to this product. Which is probably the same as what comes with this game, which is said to be horrible. It’s basically a disembodied wheel that makes things seem even less real and further detached from the act of driving.

If you really want a driving game/wheel I can’t recommend GT4, and a Logitech Driving Force Pro, enough. The length and depth of GT4 combined with that wheel is more than enough to satiate any kind of driving simulation you could ever want outside a hydraulic couch.

Oh. So that’s what it is. I thought it would be a proper, you know, “attached to the table” kind of thing. Not just a pointless doo-dah.

I don’t actually have any reason to buy a wheel in general, though, Shaper! All I was sayin’ was I don’t think that the Wii remote is very good at being a wheel as it is.

I still want to play Excite Truck. THE CRITICS BE DAMNED! :-P

Offshoot story: When I was waiting in line to pick up my Wii, someone was playing Excite Truck on the demo station. He got somehow got his truck stuck in the side of the track and couldn’t get it out. The whole line started laughing at him and I thought the poor guy would cry. Finally he got unstuck…only to get stuck again. One more, an eruption of laughter. He passed the controller on to someone else and walked away. I think that’s the best Excite Truck review I could have ever witnessed.
